2023 Candidate Information
Office: New Jersey General Assembly
Legislative District: 25
Dr. Jonathan Torres is an award-winning family medicine physician and physician educator, a dedicated Scouts BSA Leader and a father-of-two running for State Assembly to make sure patient care decisions stay between doctors and patients, and not politicians nor insurance companies. Jon works in the Department of Family Medicine at Morristown Medical Center and founded the osteopathic neuromusculoskeletal medicine residency program in 2016. He provides ambulatory medical care from his office in Morristown, NJ and hospital care at Morristown Medical Center, including overseeing a CoVID-19 unit during the pandemic in 2020.
Jon has been involved with national medical specialty associations for 17 years, receiving fellowship awards from both the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP) and the American Academy of Osteopathy (AAO). He also volunteers at the state level where he serves as Treasurer for the New Jersey Association of Osteopathic Physicians & Surgeons (NJAOPS). He has developed educational programming to serve medical students, residents and practicing physicians through these volunteer opportunities.
Jon was a member of CIR-SEIU for his medical residency and training program in Stratford, NJ from 2009 to 2013. During that time they successfully negotiated a contract after years of stalemate.
Jon’s extensive education and experience as a physician educator gives him unique insight into combining individual needs, family values, objective data, science, specialist input and stakeholder positions to collaborate on best pathways forward, while maintaining high ethical standards in final outcomes. He looks forward to bringing those insights to service for District 25 in the statehouse.
