Candidate Bio
Elizabeth Graner is a mom, educator, and community leader.
In addition to teaching at New Jersey public schools for 25 years, Liz is currently chair emeritus of the Bernards Township Democratic Committee, vice chair of the Somerset County Commission on the Status of Women, and a Governor’s appointee as commissioner on the Somerset County Tax Board.
Liz is a 2020 graduate of Leadership Somerset, a 2021 graduate of Emerge America candidate training, and a 2022 graduate of Building One America training. In the past, she has served her community through roles on the Rahway Library Board and the Rahway Housing Authority and has facilitated student volunteer work with the Rahway River Watershed Association.
As a teacher, Liz experienced the challenges created by the pandemic and witnessed firsthand the effects it had on our children, which was the original impetus for her first Assembly run in 2021. She grew up as the eldest of five children – and the first American-born grandchild – in an Irish-American home in Mt. Lebanon, a suburb of Pittsburgh, PA.
In addition to teaching, Liz coached swimming and served as faculty advisor to the social action club, the student newspaper, the Gay/Straight Alliance, and the Outdoors Club. She is a new and nontenured teacher mentor and liaison for the Rahway Education Association.
She obtained her Master of Arts in Teaching from Marygrove College and is currently pursuing additional postgraduate work.
Throughout her life, Liz has seen the power of working together to accomplish great things and hopes to bring that passion, along with her “teacher voice,” to Trenton. Liz lives in Basking Ridge with her son Patrick. – (Candidate bio from ld21nj.com)
